Remarks & Notes

"WhirlyBird" on the C&NW. Notice UP U50 43 behind CNW C628 6729 on this eastbound freight ready to depart CNW's East Minneapolis yard for Altoona and east. In late 1973 the CNW leased a hand full of Union Pacific U50s, nicknamed "WhirlyBirds", which were only used about 30 days before being returned to the UP.
