The beast has a name. WAJO NANATASIS, a Native American phrase meaning "Steam-Killer"...actually, they tell me it means "Mountain Hummingbird", but I think the former translation is a little more appropriate...LOL! This 600 hp critter has been plying the rails at Mt. Washington all summer, burning bio-diesel and sounding a bit like a farm tractor. Note that one of the side access panels is missing and the adjacent one shows some possible heat discoloration? The experiment has apparently been successful. The railroad will be starting construction on two more of these this winter. They are due out on the line sometime in the middle of 2009. Get your steam shots while you can!
