The Northeastern United States Blizzard of 1978 was was finally beginning to melt away (nine days after the storm ended). Still this set of DL&W MUs needed help from an ex PC GP38-2 (the MUs' pans are up, but this was done on rescues to keep heat and lights on). The train was an express, passing through on Track 3 (the center track) witout stopping. Yes, that was OJ Simpson in the Time Magazine/Hertz ad. GP38-2 #8009 was delivered to the Penn Central in July of 1972, as part of an order for 100 units. The entire order was returned to EMD on demand on 15 July 1987. All 100 then went to the Union Pacific, and this one was retired in June of 2003 as their #445.
