After dumping the first 20 cars of their 83 cars gravel train the crew is running their twin SD70MACs north up the mainline so they can cross back over and come down the Coastal Siding and couple to the north end of their train and continue the unloading process. This shot accentuates the bulk of Chugach Range rising to the south and east as well as the jointed rail which still graces the mainline, while the newer siding features CWR. Note: the photographer is a railroad employee and was wearing all required PPE while taking this photograph.
Coal and steel don't go bad. This album features long, slow, heavy freight trains; drag freights, slop freights, dead freights, etc. Trains with lots of power, and lots of different cargo slogging along behind.
