Opened March 1, 1911 by the Houston Belt & Terminal Railway, Houston Union Station served the Galveston-Houston Electric Railway (an interurban), the Missouri Pacific (International-Great Northern and the Gulf Coast Lines), the Santa Fe (GC&SF), the Burlington and the Rock Island. The last Amtrak run of the "Lone Star" departed from here July 31, 1974. Today Houston Union Station is the homeplate entrance to the Astros' Minute Maid Park.
