DPR-1 and its two sisters have just crossed the apex of Holum Pass, the summit of the steepest grade on the Deseret Power Railway. Every single one of the three motors' 6,000 horsepower are needed to drag the 44-car, 7,200-ton train up the five-mile-long 3% grade which starts at MP 0 -- the very beginning of the railroad's mainline at the Deserado Mine loadout loop turnout. Nothing like a challenge to start each run to the power plant! Photo from railroad property taken with permission.
