DSS&A RS-1 101 is pulling a mixed train east of Ashland on a cold and foggy September morning in 1961 in a photo taken with my father’s big Speed Graphic. The crew was complaining about how drafty the cabs of the “One Hundreds” are just before they left the depot. Too bad about the weather, but that’s Lake Superior for you! (All lies, of course…this is 101 at Palmers, Minnesota during Railfan Weekend 2009. It COULD have happened that way, though…) Thanks to the Soo Line Historical & Technical Society for providing the time machine, and Steve Glischinski/LSRM for the opportunity to photograph it.
