Remarks & Notes |
I was surprised one morning to spot this "original" NS covered hopper here in the Anchorage rail yard. It gave me pause for a few moments to think about how many millions of miles of rail this old hopper has seen in the last three plus decades. It also made me proud of the complexity and efficiency of the North American freight rail network which is still the envy of the world. Hard to believe a car that was built for a long gone eastern Carolina shortline is found in Alaska without ever having it's steel wheels leave steel rails (of course 700+ of those miles were on floating rails!) |
