Anyone who remembers the startup of Conrail on April 1, 1976, will recall the colorful consists that existed as a result of this union. It didn't take long for motive power of all the predecessor roads to get mixed up, which made train watching very interesting for a few years. While visiting Cold Springs Interlocking (located a few miles west of Springfield, Ohio), a southbound appeared with a "pure" Reading GP30 on the point! Although the locomotives took a while to be repainted, it didn't take Conrail very long to renumber whatever needed to be renumbered, paint out the previous owners' name and place a crudely stenciled "CR" on the front and sides.
