Chicago & Western Indiana Railroad owned Dearborn Station in downtown Chicago and provided access and terminal facilities for Erie; Wabash; Chicago & Eastern Illinois; Monon; Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe (who did not own C&WI); Chesapeake & Ohio (of Indiana); and Grand Trunk Western. They also ran a modest fleet of commuter trains from Dearborn Station to Dolton, IL, on its Dolton Branch. Its fleet of heavyweight coaches were hauled by neat-as-a-pin Alco RS1's. C&WI RS1 259 leads Train #71 timetable southward at 21st Street Interlocking Tower, just south of the massive Pennsylvania Railroad moveable bridge over the South Branch of the Chicago River in Chicago, IL.
Several Chicago railroads, including Burlington, Chicago & Northwestern, Illinois Central, Milwaukee Road and Rock Island, provided extensive service to and from the Chicago suburbs.
