The sun is rising on another day on the Mendota Sub near the small township of Meriden. These classic CB&Q signals litter this subdivision from Galesburg, IL, to Aurora, IL, on the 120 miles of the Mendota Sub. With new laws and upgrades, I don't think the Mendota Sub will have its original look much longer. Here we are looking east towards Earlville (set of reds signals) 6 miles away.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
Photos showing the railroad pole lines. The pole line used four basic electrical circuits - telegraph, telephone, signaling, and power. Modern technologies of fiber optics, microwave, radio, satellite, and computers have been replacing the pole lines.
