SS 119 is cast in concrete on the side of the former NYNH&H Groton Tower. Built in the early 1920s to standard plans, the brick "pagoda" style tower was the last in active service on Amtrak in New England, turning over it's duties to CTECH on December 2, 1994. The solidly built structure has stood the test of time and evokes an industrial elegance in its architecture foreign in our modern world. Amtrak has condemned this tower to death, and it is unknown how much longer she'll stand. For now, though, one can still admire her elegance and long for the days of I5 Pacific's wheeling the Merchant's Limited into the sweeping curve....
