Remarks & Notes |
In the winter of 1976-1977 a severe amount of early ice and heavy business conspired to leave Algoma Steel nearly pellet less by mid March. The solution was to move Tilden pellets all-rail for about a 3 week period in March. The routing was LS&I Tilden to Marquette, then Soo's Ex DSS&A line Marquette to Trout Lake and finally original Soo Line from Trout Lake to Soo Yard. Power was all LS&I, as Soo was short units. Mostly GE's were used although a couple RSD15's did make the trip. Cars were Soo hoppers scrounged up from where ever along with Soo cabooses. A real unique operation that mainly ran at night. At 5:42PM LS&I 2302,2500 are waiting customs clearance at Soo Yard with 50 empties. |
