Remarks & Notes |
Sometimes the best train watching spots are far away from the tracks. From the top of Mill Mountain, one can see nearly every train through the busy city of Roanoke. Here what looks to be a pair of lead units pulling an eastbound coal heading toward Altavista is actually a pair of helpers on what will be a southbound on the Winston-Salem line. Once the loaded train is east of the diamond at JK (just out of view to the left) three more NS units will follow and couple up to the train. After waiting for a northbound empty coal train to come across the diamond into town, the loaded coal train will head south using the connector track. |
