One might wonder what two freshly overhauled and painted RF&P E8As would be doing stored at Broad Street Station in April, 1971, merely days before Amtrak assumed operation of passenger service. Most power turned over to Amtrak was far from freshly overhauled and painted. Many railroads probably did as little as possible to them in the months before Amtrak. I never found out why this was done. It is possible that Amtrak paid RF&P to overhaul them. RF&P also made a similar move with several F units, overhauled and painted them before selling them on the second hand market.
