As the Kodachrome era comes to an end, one of the "joys" of slide (or any film) was to try and get that extra shot on the end of the roll. Usually the 21st or 37th shot was achievable and sometimes a 22nd or 38th! More often than not, though, the 38th would be presented as an unmounted half a frame. Never one to throw anything away, this image of the RGZ approaching Troublesome in April 1982 was salvaged from such a half frame, helped by a little photoshopping!
A remnant of the original California Zephyr, this train offered great dining and many as five Vista-Dome cars for viewing the Rocky Mountain Scenery. It was the last train to be replaced by Amtrak.
