Remarks & Notes |
Storm light on an icon. The last operational steam locomotive on the East Broad Top Railroad pauses at the servicing pit under a dark and threatening sky that pretty much reflects the line's existence for much of the last 50 years. An icon in the annals of narrow gauge railroading, it survives as a virtual time-warp in the 21st century primarily because of its remote location, yet it is that same remoteness that also represents the greatest threat to its future. There are but a small handful of places in the US that can take you back a hundred years by merely venturing onto the property and this is likely the crown jewel. Steam enthusiasts and history buffs owe it to themselves to experience this place at least once. |
