A westbound B&O manifest exits Stuart Tunnel at Magnolia, WV on October 21, 1979. At over 3,000 feet, Stuart is the longest of the four tunnels on the Magnolia Cut Off. It was also the most problematic to construct, suffering several cave ins because of the type of rock. Notice the slow order boards on the eastbound track. It has always been extremely wet and slow orders in the tunnel were not uncommon.
