The ancient Yorkshire market town of Pontefract has a modest population of around 29,000 souls. The town is indeed fortunate) in having no less than three railway stations, Tanshelf, Monkhill and Baghill within it's boundaries. Pontefract Baghill, built jointly in 1879 by the Great Central and Great Northern railways, is the least busy of the three but sees steam on a regular basis with the 'Yorkshire Coronation' express specials. Making a splendid sight this evening was LMS Pacific 'Princess Elizabeth' approaching the station and heading south on her return journey from Scarborough to Derby.
