Elsdon Yard, on Chicago's southwest side, had a roundhouse and service facilities for Grand Trunk Western steam power until the end of the steam era. We visited the yard and found a good number of live locomotives at the roundhouse and working the yard. Grand Trunk Western 6333, Class U-3-b, was built in 1942 by ALCO. After dropping her train in the yard, the first stop was at the ash pit to have her fire cleaned. The next stop was at the old wooden coaling tower and sand house where she is seen as she was taking sand. For another view, see http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=351847.
