A fascinating scene under stormy skies in rural upstate SC is the old Pickens RR shop. Note the ash pit in the foreground, a reminder of steam days. Two locomotives apparently awaiting rebuild by CLCX (Chattahoochee Locomotive, which uses the old PICK shops) sit outside. Former Laurinburg & Southern SW1 121 is ex-Milwaukee unit built in 1940, and SC Central 8383 is of 1953 vintage. A wrong turn as I was passing through town heading to Georgia for a wedding led me past this fascinating classic southern shortline shop, and it is a must see for shortline fans.
