Remarks & Notes |
RS-3 rebuild 4250 basks in a setting sun at Escanaba roundhouse. The unit was rebuilt by Alco with a 251 engine and RS-11 style long hood in 1960 after an accident in 1959. This unit was plagued with a number of problems after being transferred from Huron to N. Green Bay. It always seemed to be down with one ailment or another and this is the last time I saw it in running condition. It was odd that 4250 and 4251 were both at Escanaba at the same time. Usually one would be assigned to Iron Mountain while the other caught switching/ore yard assignments around Escanaba, to be available in the event the Iron Mountain based unit would have a failure. |
