Aboard Amtrak No. 8 from the cab of F40PH No. 357 on November 9, 1992 just east of Rio and about 14.5 miles east of Portage, Wisconsin, we pass the scene of a derailment. I don’t remember the details, but the scattered freight car parts and crushed autorack and caboose illustrate the dangers of railroading. Obviously, Soo Line caboose No. 121 met its demise here.
