In a great action photo by David Noble, a pair of Louisville & Nashville Mikes rolls around the curve at the top of the hill at Patio Tower, Winchester. This coal train originated "up the holler" of the Eastern Kentucky Division, somewhere south of Hazard. After arriving at the yard at Ravenna, this pair of engines took over. The homemade (at South Louisville) J2A on the point will come off here, while the trailing booster-equipped J4A will then become the road engine for the trip up the double track "KY" main to the big yard at DeCoursey, KY.
Either a freight train being helped over a steep grade or a long passenger or freight train requiring more engines. This album includes Helpers and double heading trains of the old days both steam and diesel.
