In February 1970, EMD built SW1500 number 1511 for the Illinois Terminal Railroad, painted green and yellow. Fast forward to year 2012: The 1511 still survives as NS's only active remaining locomotive from Illinois Terminal's fleet. It now resides in Roanoke, VA, as NS engine number 2292 and works daily as the shop switcher at Shaffers Crossing. Earlier this year, when it was decided to paint an Illinois Terminal heritage locomotive, original I.T. green and yellow paint was found underneath the layers of NS black on 2292, and those were the samples used for matching the heritage unit's colors. Here we see both 2292 and SD70ACe number 1072 posed beside each other in Roanoke. The little switcher is 42 years older than its new, bright green and yellow sibling!

A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
