By 1994, catching an SD40-2 leading a coal train on the Union Pacific was becoming rare. Here the UP 3350 (built by EMD for the UP in March 1977) heads west through Echo Canyon on the CBBVY (Black Butte, WY - Valmy, NV). The UP 3350 continues to serve on the active UP roster (as of October 26, 2012), currently working the Cache Valley Local out of Logan, Utah. That equates to 35-1/2 years of service for its original owner featuring the as-built road number. Not a bad service life for a diesel locomotive.
