I've never visited the delightful (though rather badly signposted) Weardale Railway before. It wasn't a planned visit, so I considered myself lucky to see this fine 1953 Leeds-built Hunslet 'Austerity' 0-6-0 ST named 'Wilbert' breezing along past the delightful Autumn colours with the last train of the day. The loco is on loan from the Dean Forest Railway to cover a shortfall in Weardale's motive power. If you're going to County Durham why not make a point of visiting, as it's not too far from the National Railway Museums's new Shildon centre. |
