Lombard Canyon reflections Traversing Lombard Canyon on the morning of September 15, 2012, an eastbound BNSF freight (probably a combined BNSF Spokane-Laurel/Montana Rail Link Missoula-Laurel manifest) passes the calm backwaters of the Missouri River. BNSF Dash 9 leads a quartet of MRL EMDs; 251, 254, 332 and 331. Smoke from all the western wildfires isn’t enough to obscure the colorful consist. The group of trees on the other side of the river above the second locomotive was the location of a campsite of the Lewis and Clark Expedition (1804-1806).
