An Acela train is designed for high speed on the NEC. The 102 year old Portal Bridge which crosses over the Hackensack River is not, which sort of defeats the whole purpose of Acela. Although this bridge is impressive to look at it also serves as another reminder of an outdated and crumbling infrastructure.
No work has begun to replace the Portal Bridge. However, the land in the foreground has been recently cleared to begin clean-up of chromium contamination from a couple generations ago. Is it just me or are the priorities here messed up?
