Remarks & Notes |
An early afternoon Acela Express heads south (railroad west) out of Newark Penn Station. The Prudential building in downtown Newark can be seen at left, while the flyover at Lane Interlocking is to the right. Track 1 climbs to cross over Conrail's Lane Running Track where it joins Track 2 of the Northeast Corridor. This was once a very busy connection used by Pennsylvania Railroad freights (and later those of both Penn Central & Conrail) heading to and from Waverly and Greenville Yards. Today this connection is primarily used by Conrail locals serving Metuchen Yard and the few industries that remain along the Corridor in New Jersey. |
