Black River & Western #60 has come back to life, but sadly, tragically, we lost two of her long-time caretakers, John Konn and Tom Bartkovsky, in 2012 -- John before getting to see the engine run, Tommy only a couple of months after she returned to service. In better days a long time ago, we see them during a brake test before heading south to Ringoes, John at the throttle and Tommy taking a break from firing. Farewell, friends. Scanned from a 35mm neg.
Serving small industries in Hunterdon County for 50 years, the Black River and Western serves as an active line and a window to the past of New Jersey with rural farms and small creeks.
