Two Blasts from the Past. Though CSX is rapidly replacing the ancient steel New York Central-era signal bridges in the Mohawk Valley, a few remain in service, such as this one at Milepost 190 in the Town of Mohawk, near Fonda, N.Y. (This signal mast was also once home to Conrail's Mohawk, N.Y. dragging equipment detector, which I believe was removed from service years ago.) Here, a BNSF Warbonnet visitor glides easily under the lights during a snow storm that left a foot of snow in the Mohawk Valley. UPDATE: This signal bridge is now apparently gone.
