Remarks & Notes |
Steam and smoke mix in the forest after a hard run up the hill by the Manitou & Pike's Peak rarely-operated steam locomotive. The M&PP's 1897 Vauclain Compound cog locomotive #4 is believed to be the only operating Vauclain Compound anywhere in the world, and it was fascinating to watch in operation up close as they made multiple runs a few hundred yards up the mainline and back. Major kudos to the crew there for the hard work on this locomotive which seemed to be paying off, as this is the most #4 has run since the early 1990s. |
