A westbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe steel coil train grinds up the 2% grade at the mouth of Coal Creek Canyon west of Clay, Colorado, on October 17, 2001. On the point of the short-but-heavy train is a pair of BNSF Dash 9s sandwiching a very out of place Duluth, Winnipeg and Pacific SD40 No. 5905, and pushing hard on the rear is a manned set of SD40-2 pushers. The action takes place on Union Pacific’s Moffat Tunnel Subdivision west of Denver.
