The snow train returns to Ely. Nevada Northern's Rotary Plow train steams past the old Ely Freight Terminal en route to the engine house, with her crew still manning their stations. Nevada Northern's Rotary B may not be operational, but you'd never know it from this photo. A recent cosmetic "face-lift" replaced most of the siding on the wooden cab, making her look more than fit for duty. With a few shovelfuls of snow splattered on her impeller blades, young crew member Anthony standing watch in the Pilot Door and beefy Consolidation #93 providing the motive power, the sight of this train in a snow storm is mighty convincing. About the only detail we could have hoped for was one of Pete Lerro's famous smoke bombs in the stack to breathe a little life into the rotary's engine.
