This photo illustrates how the cover on the coupler could be pulled back to facilitate coupling when in trail position. In this case, a REA express box converted from a Pullman troop sleeper is coupled to Pennsy pinstripes under the shed in Pittsburgh, 1953. This is likely the Fort Pitt arriving to prep for it's 11am departure to Chicago, with engine 5804 leading. Search "PRR 5804" for companion views of this train. |
