I've been making trips to New Hampshire ever since family vacations as a child. Just about one year ago, my girlfriend and I made a weekend trip up to the Granite State, mainly to go to the NASCAR race at Loudon. On the day before the race, however, I took her to some of the places that were etched in my mind from childhood, including Franconia Notch and a trip to the top of Cannon Mountain on their aerial tramway. Earlier in the day, we took a ride on the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad between Weirs Beach and Lakeport, after which I took this shot of the train leaving Weirs Beach for Meredith. About a month later, my girlfriend and I got engaged. As a married couple now, we're getting ready for another trip to New Hampshire next weekend. Needless to say, this photo brings back good memories of one of the nice stepping stones on our path to marriage, and New Hampshire continues to hold a special place in my heart.
Beautiful mountain scenery has made this small state a draw for rail buffs to ride the Mount Washington Cog Railway and the Conway Scenic, among others.
