Entering Hockessin. The Wilmington & Western's Independence Day Fireworks Train drifts carefully across State Route 41 in downtown Hockessin, DE, with veteran Engineer Don Young on the throttle. Almost exactly one hour after departing Greenbank Station, the trainload of 4th of July revelers is just about a city block from the end of the line and a date with the town's last fireworks display. Apparently, budget woes have forced town officials to call a halt to the local tradition, much to the dismay of railroad patrons who find the combination of the sunset train ride and the fireworks to be a very enjoyable family event.
