The blue flag is up as VIA Rail’s train No. 2, the “Canadian,” takes its station and service stop at Jasper, Alberta, on July 17, 2013. One track over is VIA F40PH-3 No. 6412, which shows off its new rear end acquired during the major rebuilding of 53 of VIA’s F40PH-2s from 2008 to 2012. This new addition houses a new “Genset” (generator) and a separate diesel engine for electrical head end power (HEP). A new large rear door allows access to the generator; note the unique location of the rear headlight!
