After the conclusion of a business train trip down Amtrak's Northeast Corridor, the NS office car train briefly utilizes trackage rights over CSX to depart Washington, bound for home rails at Alexandria. Amtrak trains bound for the NS mainline use CSX's right of way between CP Virginia Avenue and Alexandria. This scene, captured from the L'Enfant Promenade overhead bridge, is just a few blocks south of the end of Amtrak's territory. The Southern Crescent used to create a similar scene when it was a daily fixture into and out of DC with their green and gold tuxedo scheme E units. Our Nation's Capitol prevails in the skyline on this warm and humid summer afternoon. Photo by Casey Thomason. For more information about Norfolk Southern, visit www.nscorp.com
