Lackawann heritage unit 1074 is rolling through the affluent town of Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, heading to an appearance in Boonton, New Jersey, for the United Railroad Historical Society of New Jersey's open house and festival on Sunday. The Lackawanna caboose is owned and was restored by the Tri-State Chapter NRHS. Built on the tender frame of a retire steam locomotive in 1954, the Lackawanna steel cabooses were big and heavy for their era. It is dwarfed by the 210-ton SD70. We believe this is the first time that an NS heritage engine has hauled an authentic namesake caboose.
