After passing through the 35 mph speed limit downtown, Rio Grande's 'Railblazer' train 103 accelerates to 60 mph west of town at Provo Junction. The weed choked trackage in the foreground once belonged to the Salt Lake and Utah Railroad, an interurban line running between Salt Lake City and Payson. A few miles were purchased by the D&RGW in 1946, becoming the 6.6 mile Orem Branch. By 1988, it was derelict, out of service, and disconnected from the mainline. The old 90# rail was salvaged and the right of way was sold to Provo City, becoming part of Independence Avenue.
