Only on the DL... The Delaware-Lackawanna assembled this amazing six-unit MLW/ALCO consist to lead a combined PT-98/SPG grain train. The train departed Scranton with 61 cars in tow, and picked up 6 lumber loads at Moscow. The power consisted of: 2045 (M420), 2461 (C425), 414 (C420), 3642 (C636), 3000 (M630) & 405 (C420). These units put on quite a show as they struggled upgrade through the Poconos in single-digit temperatures. Unfortunately the frigid weather took its toll and a few units suffered from mechanical issues enroute. DL mechanics met up with the train at Tobyhanna as all six units were needed to move tonnage on this day.
Don Colangelo, retired CMO (and sometimes piano player) at the DL Scranton shops cared for the many ALCOs, MLWs and a few EMDs that passed in and out of South Scranton and Von Storch shop doors.
Here is a look and many of those units.
