Ex South African Railways Class GMA/M (Garratt) 4-8-2+2-8-4, No. 4079, performs the first of many runpasts before sun up, at an arranged early morning photo special at the Reefsteamers Depot in Germiston, Johannesburg. This locomotive is now the property of Sandstone Estate, but on loan to Reefsteamers, a steam preservation group. No. 4079 was built by Beyer, Peacock & Co in 1956.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
