Streamliners to Spencer! The invasion of Spencer, N.C. of vintage cab cars and streamliners has begun. The locomotive coming the furthest is Doyle McCormack's Nickel Plate Road PA-1 No. 190, originally built for the Santa Fe and later used on the Delaware & Hudson and in Mexico. The engine has been under restoration for more than a decade in Portland, Ore. and this spring McCormack, known as the engineer on Southern Pacific No. 4449, wrapped up the cosmetic restoration. With that done, the engine was handed over the BNSF for the nearly more than 2,500 mile journey across the country. The locomotive is seen here at Whitefish, Mont. on May 14, passing the still snow covered Big Mountain. For more information about Doyle McCormack's amazing restoration of Nickel Plate Road PA-1 No. 190 see the Trains Magazine special edition "Locomotive 2014," due later this year.
