The J and Z lines of the New York City Subway have always been given the hand me downs when it comes to equipment. Delivered in 1969 and 1970, the R42 subway cars are almost half a century old and are waiting for their replacements, the R179s, to be built by Bombardier in the coming year.
Here, a set of these R42s waits to cross the Williamsburg Bridge across the East River into Manhattan.
