With the desolate and vast wide open vistas of the Mojave Desert forming the backdrop a classic old US&S searchlight signal stands guard at the west end of Basin, CA where Union Pacific's Cima Subdivision leaves the confines of Afton Canyon for the open desert. These venerable old railroad signals have severed on lines across the Country for decades but one day they will enter the 'class 1' history books along with the semaphores they replaced and the first generation motive power they once worked along side. On this calm desert evening the searchlights at Basin patiently await their next call of duty, protecting the Cima Subdivision.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
