Arkansas and Missouri's original owners, the Hannolds, were very receptive to rail photography - so much so that they sponsored several invitation-only photographer specials. My friend Rich Jahn was on the invitation list for the first special, but could not attend. He asked me if I wanted to go, and had the invitation transferred to me and two friends.
The rainy weather could not dampen our spirits as we boarded the wooden combine which would be pulled by an RS1. This would be our home for the day as we preceded the Fort Smith Turn, headed by a C420/RS32/C420 lashup.
We were dropped off at various remote locations, given time to shoot the RS1/combine, and then the trains were repositioned to allow us to get shots of the freight. Here the southbound freight exits the Winslow tunnel amid the fall colors of the Ozarks.
