C&O 4-8-4 No. 614 was made by Lima Locomotive of Lima, Ohio in 1948 and was the last passenger steam locomotive commercially built in the USA. For three seasons in the late 1990's, it was the locomotive for a series of spectacular excursions from Hoboken NJ to Port Jervis NY.
The impresario of these trips, Ross Rowland, was the engineer for one way on these trips and he was well known for not being shy. Whenever he could, he ran 'er full out at track speed. At such times, the air and earth truly shook. It was a privilege to experience Lima's Last Locomotive doing what it was designed to do.
