It was 68° in Denver/Arvada, Colorado, on February 9, 2015, so a friend and I decided to hike out to Big 10 Curve to take advantage of the sunny skies and warm weather. This slightly different angle of the famous curve is from open space above the east switch at Eisele. An eastbound BNSF freight, powered by an ES44AC and two Union Pacific SD70Ms fills the curve with three hopper cars of coke and 73 tank cars worth of freight train. The cut the locomotives are passing was widened by UP (removing a couple of trees out of the way as well) after this line received damages from the autumn 2013 rainstorm and flooding—making this shot possible today.
